What Pages Should Every Business Website Have?

You can have the most beautiful website in your industry… and still get zero leads from it.

I see it all the time. Clean design. Smooth animations. Gorgeous layout. And absolutely no strategy behind it.

If your website isn’t bringing in traffic or converting visitors into leads, it’s not doing its job. And more often than not, it’s not because you “need a redesign.” It’s because you’re missing the right pages, or the right structure behind those pages.

So let’s break it down.

This is what actually matters if you want your website to show up in search results and turn visitors into clients.

The Bare Minimum Pages Every Business Website Needs

If you’re just trying to get a website live, there are three pages I consider non-negotiable.

  • Homepage
  • Service Pages (yes, plural)
  • Contact Page

That’s it. That’s the baseline.

But even here, most websites get it wrong.

Homepage: Your First Impression (and Direction)

Your homepage isn’t just there to “look nice.” It should immediately tell people:

  • Who you help
  • How you help them
  • Why you’re the person to help them

If someone lands on your homepage and has to figure out what you do, you’ve already lost them.

This is one of the most common mistakes I see. Businesses try to be clever or “branded,” and the messaging ends up vague, generic, and not searchable.

Clear beats clever. Every time.

Service Pages: Where SEO Actually Happens

This is where I’m going to be very direct.

Every single service you offer should have its own dedicated page.

I used to let this slide. If a client had two or three services and didn’t want to write the content, we’d combine them onto one page.

Not anymore.

At this point, with how competitive search engines and AI-driven results are, it’s an absolute must.

If you want a deeper breakdown of how SEO actually works with your website structure, this will help:
Can a Web Designer Improve My Website’s Search Engine Ranking?

Here’s why:

  • Google needs a clear, dedicated page to understand what you offer
  • You need a specific keyword tied to that service
  • You build authority by going in-depth on one topic

If everything is dumped onto one page, search engines don’t fully understand what you do—and you won’t rank for anything meaningful.

And if you don’t rank, you don’t get traffic.

Contact Page: Make It Easy to Take the Next Step

This one seems obvious, but it’s often overlooked.

You need a dedicated contact page.

Yes, you can have forms or buttons throughout your site (and you should), but your contact page is the one place people know they can go when they’re ready to reach out.

If you’re not getting inquiries, your contact setup might actually be the issue:
Your Contact Page Might Be the Problem

Without it, you’re creating friction—and friction kills conversions.

What Most Websites Are Missing

I’m working with a client right now who has been in business for decades. They’ve worked with major corporations. On paper, they should be dominating their space.

But their website?

  • No dedicated service pages
  • No clear keywords
  • No contact page
  • Multiple H1 tags confusing search engines
  • Generic, non-searchable messaging

They have zero organic traffic and zero conversions. This is what happens when a website exists without strategy.

It looks like a business asset, but it doesn’t function like one.

The Difference Between “Having Pages” and Having Pages That Work

It’s not enough to just have the right pages. They have to be built correctly.

  • A service page that’s just a paragraph of text? Not going to rank.
  • A homepage with no clear messaging? Not going to convert.
  • A website with one lonely “Contact Us” button at the bottom? People won’t click it.

There are three things that make pages actually work:

1. Strategic Messaging

Your website should speak directly to your ideal client:

  • What they’re struggling with
  • What they need
  • How you solve that problem

If your messaging is all about you (or it’s too vague) it won’t convert.

2. Clear Calls-to-Action (Everywhere)

People don’t want to search for what to do next.

If they have to think about how to contact you, they won’t.

You should have buttons placed throughout your site at key decision points.

3. Intentional Layout and Structure

Design matters, but not in the way most people think. A flashy website can actually hurt your SEO if it’s not structured properly. (yes, I said it!) Instead, the layout/structure of your site has to make sense for the person visiting your site and it has to lead them to the next step (booking a call). Those are strategic decisions, not ‘pretty, aesthetically pleasing’ ones.

Additional Pages That Help You Grow

Blog (When Used Strategically)

A blog is one of the most powerful tools for organic growth, if you use it correctly.

This isn’t about posting random content. This is about keyword strategy and answering real questions.

Location Pages (If You Serve Specific Areas)

If your business serves a specific geographic area, you need location pages.

This helps search engines understand where you offer your services.

Accessibility Statement (ADA Compliance)

This shows that you’re making your website accessible to all users (and helps reduce the chances of a lawsuit)

Privacy Policy

This is a legal must-have.

About Page (Optional)

Helpful for trust, but not your main conversion driver.

Bare Minimum vs. Growth-Ready Website

Bare Minimum

  • Homepage

  • Contact page

Growth-Ready

  • Strategic messaging
  • Keyword research
  • SEO structure
  • Strong CTAs
  • Blog content
  • Location pages
